Hanging With Fifi

I hate Pinterest this time of year because it always reminds me how UN-creative I am with our Elf on the Shelf. He hides out in the open (you never have to open anything to find him) and he never does anything fun or mischievous with marshmellows or toilet bowls. HOWEVER, I did see THIS idea on Pinterest one day and I thought Now, that is genius AND requires no creativity whatsoever.

Basically, Fifi (our elf) left a note today saying that Santa gave him permission to allow the kids to play with him for ONE DAY before he goes back to the North Pole. They can touch him and play with him and not break his magic. He even asked if I could clean him up a bit because his jacket is a bit filthy from that time he hid near something greasy. (Read: MY ENTIRE HOUSE.)

The kids FREAKED OUT. They are SO EXCITED. They are carrying him EVERYWHERE today and I’m loving it.

So…while I want to punch Pinterest in the face for making me feel kinda lame about the Elf on the Shelf most days, I’m excited for this one VERY awesome idea.

  1. I have really regretted ever introducing that elf into our household! I am just not creative with him either. Plus we forget to move him half the time! I would love to be able to think of some fun things to do with him, but I don’t like the naughty things people have him do, because the book says that he will report back to Santa if the kids are naughty. How can he do that if he is naughty, too? My cousin just has him come for the week before Christmas, which is much better than the whole month. It is too hard to think of places for him for a whole month for non-creative types like me. This is a cute idea, though. Thanks for sharing!
Oh, he did “eat” a lot of my peppermint truffles one night last holiday season. We found him surrounded by the wrappers, holding his tummy. Santa replaced them with a whole new bag in my stocking. That is the most creative thing I have done with him, even though it was naughty. Right now he is having out in the Lego house.

  2. Thank you for this idea! Our Elf stays to watch the kids open their gifts on Christmas morning so he will still be here tomorrow. I think Santa will leave a note tonight telling them since Elfie was such a good little Elf he can play with them tomorrow without losing his magic! My kids are 3, 5, and 6 so I’m sure they’re going to LOVE this!!! Our little elf is so good because like you, I’ve had a terribly hard time coming up with things for him to do. He usually just sits somewhere new each day. The most creative things he’s done has been to sit on top of a fountain drink cup and “drink” from the straw while having popcorn all around. The kids thought he was watching a movie. He also borrowed a baby doll’s pillow and small blanket and made a little bed in our tree once. BORING stuff! So, thank you, thank you, thank you for this idea!!!
