About Me

I did it! I chopped off my hair! And now I have to shower every day and I’m kinda pissed about that!

I had become a bit apathetic about my hair in the last year or so. 99% of the time I wore it in a bun, which meant I didn’t always have to shower as a dirty bun looks the same as a clean bun.

If you’ll recall – I stopped using shampoo in my hair with any regularity in 2003. That decision right there made my curls SO MUCH MORE AWESOME. Which means, when I fix my hair, I really like it. And all it takes to “fix” my hair is to get out of the shower after a good conditioning, and put gel in it. That’s it! Nothing else!

Yet…STILL…I was too lazy to do that many mornings. So, it went back in a bun. 5-6 days out of 7. I decided a while back that a short hair cut would FORCE me to spend more time on my appearance, something I needed to do. I just needed to decide how short, and what style I needed. Once I decided? BAM! I went Friday and chopped it ALL OFF!

I am happy with it, I am! But, I am still inherently lazy. So, you know, I miss having the option to just throw it back in a bun and say, “SCREW IT.”

It’s not quite long enough to put in a ponytail, but pigtails work on a run, as long as I use a headband to keep the front parts out of my face. I think I could probably french-braid it, but I haven’t tried yet.

The last time I had short hair was 1998 or so. I figured I’ll keep it short for a bit, maybe get it cut again before E’s graduation, but I’m certain I won’t keep it short forever. The Lazy is too strong of a force to battle and – while I hope styling it on a regular basis instills better habits – I still really need to be able to just throw it back regularly.

But for now? It’s fun! (Other than the new look when I wake up in the mornings. That’s a bit scary.) I’m going to play with it as much as possible while I have it. And then I’m going to grow it out and put back up in a bun for the next 10 years.

  1. It looks great! As a fellow curly-haired person, I know how hard it is to get a decent curly haircut, but you’ve definitely got a winner there.

  2. Awesome cut! I have curls, too, and I know how hard it can be to trust someone with your hair. You look great!

  3. I love your new cut! It’s so cute! I do understand the lazy outweighing the benefits of a short cut though…I cut mine short once after I had a baby. Why I thought I would want hair that I couldn’t put in a pony tail after having a baby, I don’t know! Bad Idea!

  4. cute cute hair!! Can’t you just use a spray bottle to wet in in the AM, that way you don’t have to shower every AM?

  5. Cute! My sister uses a spray bottle to wet her hair when she doesn’t need a shower in the morning. Maybe that would cut the time? It doesn’t seem like it would be much more work than a bun.

  6. It looks awesome!! I love it! Man, your hair is just gorgeous. Is that you on the bottom right, as well? That is actually my favorite look — fluff it just a little more and you’ll have almost an afro look, like the girl in this article.

  7. It is so cute! And the bed head is pretty awesome.

I cut my really long hair last year thinking that a style would force me to actually style it. And all I want to do is put it in a bun now, and it’s not long enough.

The lazy is strong with this one.

  8. It looks great! I am a short haired woman myself, but my hair type is like the complete opposite as yours (very fine and stick straight), so I look like straight up ass with long hair. It is a lot more work than longer hair! Everyone is always telling me “Oh your hair must be so easy to take care of since it’s short!” Um, no, I have to shower and blow dry it every single morning. It doesn’t take that long, but still. If I just washed and went it would be a cowlicky mess.

  9. OH MY GOD!!! I LOVE The lower right hand photo. The one with it all wild. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! Hot and sexy!! I hope that was okay to say.

  10. I love it! I chopped my hair last summer and I like it, but I still pull it halfway back to keep it out of my eyes. I have curly hair, but it’s not as curly as yours. Especially after children, it changed to a looser, wavy look that goes flat if I leave it down. Short hair is fun, but certainly a bit more work!

  11. I only get somewhat curly hair when I try to grow my uber-short hairstyle out. Then the curls all seem to go in wonky directions. And not having the patience for hair growth or hair-futzing, I always wind up chopping it back off again. You’d think I’d learn.

All that said, I really like your short cut. Bet your head and neck feel lighter, without the weight of your hair! Your morning bed-head, however, reminds me a bit of crazy Carrot-Top’s hair. Good thing you can calm it down some, and you in no way resemble him!

  12. I love it! Isn’t it crazy how most people seem to think that short hair=easy hair? But really, long hair is WAY easier! Good for you for taking the plunge!
