A New Definition Of Wonderful

Concentrating

Wes carried that piece of paper around with him all day yesterday. It was the weirdest thing. And everytime he went to “color” on it he grabbed one of the many super-dull pencils and wrote on it for minutes at a time, never actually making a mark because the pencil was so dull the lead wasn’t even poking out far enough to make marks. Then he’d fold it back up and carrying it around a little bit longer. He doesn’t usually do compulsive type things like that – compulsive behavior is more his sister’s M.O. – but yesterday he was mega-attached to the ritual of writing on that piece of paper. I found the whole thing fascinating and kept wondering what facet of her personality I was seeing developing in this mundane but Oh So Important To Him behavior.

Last night he finally got the pencil to make some marks. I asked him what he was writing. “My name.” Which, to his credit, did look like some “W”s on there somewhere. I said, “Good job, Wes!” He said, “You’re welcome, Momma.”

Hee.

Just one of those Not At All Exciting But Still Quite Memorable days that make me so happy with my life.

  1. Love it! I would pay untold amounts of money to know what’s going on in my son’s mind sometimes. He’s four & the things he comes up with are hysterical!

    Is Wes confused?

That is so sweet about carrying the paper round 🙂
