During my travels to Chicago this week…my perfectly healthy Dad got hospitalized with possible kidney failure. I found out he was sick when his doctor tried to reach me as his emergency contact because his blood work was awful. “He needs to be in the hospital now. And I can’t get hold of him.”
Oh, and that call came as I was boarding my plane. Not an ideal time to get a call saying your Dad needs immediate medical attention, yet no one can find him.
My Mom ended up going to his house for us (he was asleep because he was feeling so awful) and got him to the hospital. Turns out there are all sorts of other symptoms as well and they’ve decided to biopsy his kidney this morning to try to figure out what is going on. My brother is already there from Tucson and I’ll be heading up tonight. Let’s just say I’m a wee bit frazzled right now. He would hate me writing about this on my site because he doesn’t like to cause a fuss. But – that’s what he gets for being hospitalized so he has to just DEAL WITH IT. If he’s going to go get sick on me, then I’m going to blog about it, DAMMIT. BAH!
My trip to Chicago was awesome and I do have a lot I want to talk about it, but I want to wait when I’m in more of a happy mood because it feels kinda fake right now as I’m STRESSING THE HELL OUT.
Luckily, my husband somehow found out he has the magic hands and can put my son to bed in his crib and he sleeps through the night. He did it while I was gone and I hated him for it. BUT – he did it again last night? And it worked! My son slept through the night last night. PRAISE ALL OF THE GODS IN ALL OF THE LANDS.

I am sorry to hear about your dad. I hope the biopsy goes well and provides answers. It isn’t fun when dad’s are in the hospital is it? Beyond stressful. Lots of prayers coming your way!!

My mom’s been dealing with chronic kidney disease since ’03, she starts permanent dialysis & transplant-listing in a months. Kidney stuff is stressful, I’m so sorry to hear about it 🙁 The GOOD thing is if they caught it early, depending on what caused it, dialysis can reverse things and put you back at normal, and you’re good to go. And if it can’t be entirely reversed, well, not only are there a lot of treatments/diets/medications etc, its the only organ failure where they’ve figured out an artificial way to do it, and let you carry on with your life. His creatinine and GFR #’s should tell you where he is. Hugs hugs hugs!
