OMG.

I’m without a toddler this morning. She spent the night at Mimi and Dampaw’s and I’m here trying to think of all the things I can do this morning without her to chase after. First and foremost? Go grocery shopping. I’m proud that I’ve mastered the Week’s Worth Of Groceries With Two Kids task…but it’s not an easy one. I have to move VERY quickly. (Two weeks ago I did my best yet: $210 dollars worth of groceries in 18 minutes.) Today? I’m going to be leisurely. I’m going to do something I never do…browse.

I also woke up to my VP text from Barack this morning. (We’re on a first name basis, you know.) Biden. Not myfirst choice, but I still think it’s a good one if we hope to get elected. He texted me at 2:35am, he should know I’d be sleeping. I’ll talk to him about that later.

I am hoping to go out today and do something I’ve been talking about for three years: Buy end tables for my bed! (MrZ: “They’re called BED-SIDE TABLES NIGHTSTANDS – you STILL CAN’T GET IT RIGHT.”) I’ll keep you posted on this exciting development.

What are your plans?

Edit from 2020 – I’m keeping this post just because of the Biden reference since he just got elected President this year.

  1. Grocery shopping in relative peace and quiet, it sounds positively relaxing. We tried shopping today but taking the hubby along means I actually have 3 kids to try and contain. He is a bad influence on young kids but oh so much fun.
Tomorrow it is try and suck up to the boy child for forgetting about a party he was invited to today. I am forever relegated to bad parent status.
Enjoy your mini holiday and have fun looking for tables that will become a dumping ground for everything imaginable and plenty of things unimaginable.

  2. how in the world did you do grocery shopping that fast??? HOLY COW!!!! have fun browsing!!! I don’t know much about Biden so I better get to researching. πŸ™‚

I myself am most likely heading to Oxford, MS today. πŸ™‚ Of course we are watching Fay as well and wondering if we should leave or not.

  3. They’re nightstands. πŸ™‚

We’re going to be lazy today. I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to it.

Hope you have a good one.

  4. Holy crap that’s a lot of money on groceries. I guess one benefit to be a childless, swinging single is the $50 biweekly food bill. Is it sad that I learned the Democratic VP from your blog? Finally, I call them night stands.

  5. Well, I woke up with my family in a Holiday Inn somewhere in OK. We are have a mini vacation before the start of school on Monday.

    I call them nightstands also.

  6. A text at 2:35 am? Somebody didn’t think that through πŸ˜› I didn’t know you could get texts from your candidate though…that’s interesting, and kind of amusing. Elections in the 21st century…huzzah πŸ˜‰ And I gotta go with MrZ on this one – “end tables for your bed” is just odd πŸ˜›

  7. I slept in this morning! Even with my toddler at home! I cannot believe we both slept until 9am. It’s been YEARS since I could do that. (Can you tell I’m excited?)

    And they are nightstands!

I did groceries last night with my 2 year old, and he was happy to go for 45 mins, as long as he could push the cart.

  8. Ah, yes. Barack also sends me tweets. I asked him about his stance on delaying HP and the Half Blood Prince, but I haven’t gotten a response….

  9. Congrats on trying vegetarianism! So much better for you and the planet……the weight will come off, don’t sweat it πŸ™‚

  10. I got the text @ 2:38 a.m. πŸ™‚ It woke me up and then I just couldn’t get back to sleep cuz I was thinking “who the heck is Joe Biden???”

I just read a bit about him and it seems Barack (we are on a first-name basis too) is following the Lincoln policy of “keep your friends close and your enemies closer”. hmmmm Barack is a smart dude, that’s fer sure. Just wish he woulda picked a woman but oh well.

And whoots for the veggie thing! Me, I like chicken too much to be totally veggie (hey, I’m a cat, what can I say), but I love the veggies.

oh and btw I found u through slackerpapa

take care – and I know all about the nursing thing — I did it for 5 years with my 2 kids who are teens now! it *does* get better, trust me. Eventually they will just demand McDonald’s and then your boobs are free πŸ™‚

  11. Around our homestead, we actually call him by his childhood nickname, Barry. The kids even made a damn Wii avatar named Barry! I fear that I have poisoned their wee little minds with my political OCD.

    Happy browsing!

  12. Ooh, new furniture! See, this is how I knew I was an adult: the idea of new furniture started to be very exciting to me. Hee, yeah, they’re called night stands.

  13. 2:35am? I heard it on the radio at 1am.

Isn’t it great when you get to do a task with one less kid? After I had multiple kiddos, it always amazed me at how much 4 kids seemed like a break. lol

  14. I am just glad the mystery of the VP is over as I was finding it (like so much of the Endless Race for 2008) a bit tedious. Enjoy leisurely grocery shopping! I have few plans today and I am loving it. And my couch. πŸ™‚

  15. Even not having a toddler or a baby, I still didn’t get to sleep in. My seven year old came into my room at 7am this morning to ask Dad to check his loose tooth. I grocery shop on Friday’s though when the kids are in school. Gotta give you credit for the fastest though. I can’t get out in under 30 minutes and it’s only $100. Hope you enjoyed it!

  16. I always call them end tables, too. But I call the end tables in the living room “the coffee tables. Uh. The little ones?”

I spent the morning doing a neighborhood clean-up at our high school. It was so fun. Of course I groused before going, but once I got there I had a blast. We visited, drank coffee, had DONUTS, and I got to baby my flowerbed I’ve been nurturing along — watered, weeded, mulched. It was a good work-out. My husband has the kids with him, so I didn’t have to do any chasing around.

  17. I call them nightstands too!
Today we got to the beach and it rained:( Maybe tomorrow! Hope you enjoyed grocery shopping with only AndyZ!

  18. Speechless!

It takes me ages to shop, and theat is when i am TRYING to be fast. I am amazed at that speed.

    Wow!
