MrZ bought me a sewing machine many years ago for Christmas when I was determined to learn how to sew. Long story short? I never really learned because the first thing he attempted on it turned out better than the first thing I tried and I got pissed and stuck it in a closet.
BUT – if you’ll recall – one of my goals is to sew something with my sewing machine. I dug it out this morning and after pouring over the user manual it only took me about an hour to get thread around the bobbin. (Bobbin! I used the word bobbin!) Then it took me another hour to get the thread from the bobbin back up where it was supposed to go. And then…THEN…guess what I did? I stitched a line! I have some scrap fabric from my last failed attempts years ago that I’ve been practicing on. And I did it! I sewed a line! It’s not quite straight, but still! A line!
I took a picture but then I decided I was too excited to tell you all about it to bother with uploading a picture. So, you’ll have to take my word for it. I can’t cross the item off my list yet, but I’m so much closer than I was yesterday! I’m so proud! Yay Me!
(Yes. I know. I need to get out more.)
Sewing can be quite fun. I have worked in costume shops while in college and had a blast. I wasn’t fantastic, but I still loved it. I have been wanting to get back to it and see if I could make myself a Mardi Gras Costume. 🙂
you’re so crazy. I just bought a sewing machine! And some awesome fabric. Something tells me though that it will take me just as long to thread the damn thing as it did you.
*sigh*
tablecloths … the only point of a sewing machine in my life is to sew tablecloths – and TG my table is rectangular!! CONGRATULATIONS!!
Congratulations! That’s better than I’ve done in at least 10 years, so color me impressed.
I had to sneak my 7th grade home ec sewing project home to get my mom to fix it. I still only got a C…she said it was a lost cause. My grandmother sews and my mom is a beautiful seamstress….me? Not so much.
Yay! Go Zoot! I got a little sewing machine a couple years ago. I don’t use it often, but I’m always really proud of anything I make on there. I helped my mom make curtains for my son’s room and I’ve made a few pillows and tote bags. One of these days I swear I’m going to figure out all the bells and whistles on my machine.
Color me impressed… my sewing machine is still in its original box… mocking me.
Be careful, you’re dangerously close to doing some innovent searching online and getting sucked into the world of craft blogs!! There’s just too much inspiration out there, I can’t keep up…
i used to sew, but I haven’t in over a decade. I may still have my sewing machine in the basement, but I doubt it works. I may dig it out and try.
Bobbin! I’m proud of you. I keep thinking I’d like to start sewing but I’m afraid it’ll be like my tragic attempt at learning to knit. Sewing machines intimidate me.
OMG, could you BE any cuter?? LOL. “A line! A line!” 🙂 (I’m not making fun of you. I would’ve said the exact same thing.. :))
Go Zoot! Won’t you please share the photo with us.
If you would like to try something simple, you could make curtains for a bedroom. You would use flat sheets that match the bed set and stitch the side you would put the pole through. Quck and easy and it would make you smile every time you saw it. It did me, anyway. 🙂
Good for you! I have a sewing machine because I was determined to get into sewing. And then…well I tried, but the thread always bunches up (where does it all come from?!?!) or I can’t get that 2nd thread to come out of the bobbin thingie, so I stuck it on a shelf. I fear the machine now. 🙂
Learning to thread a sewing machine is huge! HUUUGE, even!
Congratulations!
Go you! It’s a step in the right direction!
