Pregnant

Goodbye 1st trimester, hello due date.

We had a doctor’s appointment this morning. This was the one where they first try to find the heartbeat with the doppler. I’ve only heard two of my baby’s heartbeats on the doppler before, so this was a big day for us. I said a silent plea to the fetus that he not hide from the doppler. She stuck the wand on my belly and in one second we heard the baby’s heartbeat loud and clear. People? We are officially using the pregnancy category from now on.

They also gave us our due date. May 30th. Of course, since we’ll be opting for the c-section, we’ll have some control over the actual date, but for those of you asking: I am 13 weeks and 6 days along right now. Officially into my second trimester. Officially allowed to “tell people” we’re pregnant. You know – everyone besides you guys and our close friends and family. Wait, that doesn’t leave anybody else. Except the cashier at Target. We can tell her now.

The stupid scale at their office said I had gained four pounds since my last visit but my scale at home still has me holding at the same weight. So, I’m ignoring their scale and using mine. I gained 10lbs the first 8 weeks (I’m good) but haven’t gained any since, so that’s better than with NikkiZ. I had already gained 15lbs at this point with her. Since I started about 5lbs heavier this time around, I’m glad to see I’m not gaining as quickly. I’d like this to be the one pregnancy that I maybe gain the normal amount of weight.

So. We’re pregnant. We have our gender ultrasound on January 3rd, although we don’t need it because I’m fairly certain this is a boy. The pregnancy is almost identical to LilZ and opposite of NikkiZ. I’ll be referring this baby as “he” until I’m told otherwise. This baby. I’m having a baby. I’m having another baby. I don’t know how in the hell I became so blessed, or what good karma I accumulated to see such good fortune, but I’m not questioning it.

May 30th. Sounds like a good due date to me.

  1. I think hearing that heartbeat for the first time is just about the greatest thing in a pregnancy next to the actual giving birth part. It really makes it all so real doesn’t it? Congrats on the heartbeat. You got me all teary-eyed!

  2. Zoot, I’m so happy for you! It sounds like you’re damn happy yourself, and that makes it really.cool.

So, do we start referring to BabyZ? Or BoyZ?

  3. Congrats! I’m so happy for you and your family.

I’m currently pregnant with my first and have a due date of May 17th, but my husband is convinced the baby will come much later since babies in his family tend to come late. I’m loving the second trimester so far (I’m 15 weeks 2 days right now) and I can’t believe how quickly this whole thing is flying by. I have my big ultrasound the day after Christmas and I can hardly wait!

  4. BTW. May 30 is “Hug Your Cat Day.”

If you go with the 28th it would be “Slugs Return To Capistrano Day.”

But, if you hold off until June 2nd your child would have a legitimate reason to celebrate “Leave the Office Early Day!”

  5. Congrats and thanks for the update… I was starting to get a little nervous! And I agree, the doctor’s scales lie… go w/ the one you have at home 🙂

  6. Congratulations!! This might sound crazy, but I am so excited for you you that I teared up a little!

  7. YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY!

i’m so glad the heartbeat was there, strong, and that you’re past the first trimester! so many congrats i don’t know how to say it all!!!

  8. WOOOHOOO! I’m so excited for you. I have to request (I don’t think I can actually do that, though) the date of May 23rd, my mom and my MIL and cousin-in-law’s birthday. This news has made my day so much better.

  9. Holy Moly!! It is “official” now. I am beyond happy for you and wish you to have an easy go. YAY! My friend is due with her first about a month before you. Another friend just had a baby…all these babies!! 🙂 🙂

  10. YEAAAA!!!! You & my sister are due 4 days apart. You’re ahead, though, so you’ll win the prize. I’m not sure what it is, though. 4 extra days/nights of new babydom? Well worth it! Congrats!

  11. One of my kids was a May baby. It still ranks as my favorite month of the four to have a baby because it wasn’t horrifically hot yet. And an emerald is a lovely birthstone. And the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and your kid will think the Memorial Day parade is in their honor.

So, kudos on the May due date…you’ve done well!

  12. That is the best news! I’m thrilled for you!

May 29th is *my* birthday. It’s a great time of year to celebrate. Far enough from Christmas that people aren’t burned out on celebrating and presents. Great weather. A national holiday. What more could a person want?

  13. A baby! Oh happy day!! Congrats, Zoot! 🙂

However, I fell I must warn you – May babies are TROUBLE! (I know – I was one – May 23rd).

Late May (and most of June) babies are Geminis on the astrological chart, and they’re a handful! Always on the go, are born convinced of their own greatness and are prone to world class mood swings (hence, the twins sign).

On a brighter note, Geminis are typically very creative, are great writers and communicators – and they LOVE office supplies!! LOL

  14. YAY, Zoot family! I don’t comment very often, but I love your family and wanted to say that I am so happy that you can officially start counting down the days until there is another WeeZ!

  15. Congrats! Always a fabulous milestone to reach.

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant (just meaning Friday) and it has taken everything in my not to announce it on my blog. It is so hard to hold in such big news…but I anticipate this pregnancy will likely end in tears as my others have so I figure I’ll keep it to myself (other than telling you and anyone who reads your comments because you guys don’t know me). So there, your blog has allowed me to semi-anonymously announce my pregnancy to blog world. Thanks 🙂 But if I ever see the heartbeat, it will be all over my blog.

  16. As a fellow May 2008 Mommy-To-Be [I’m a few weeks ahead of you, due the first part of May], I couldn’t be happier for you!

May the following 25+ weeks be the easiest ever! 😀

  17. YAY ZOOT!!!!! May is a perfect month to have a baby;) A little Spring Chicken. SO HAPPY for you, you deserve this so much.

  18. Excited. Happy. Proud. Anxious. Those are just some of the feelings I’m having for you. Yay for a heartbeat! You deserve this and more…

  19. Echoing 50 comments ahead of me….

So happy for you. Zoot the Youngest will get to have a big End-of-School/Birthday Bash every year! How fun!

  20. From a longtime reader…CONGRATS!

Oh, and my birthday is May 30th. It’s the original Memorial Day. 🙂

  21. WOOHOOOOOOOO!!! Go zoot! I had been wondering (and quietly hoping) that everything would go well this time around. So very happy for you!!!

  22. Yay!!! I’m due April 1, so I’m a little ahead of you.. my last dr’s visit I’d gained 5 lbs in 3 WEEKS.. I blamed it on Halloween. I’m so excited to see the scale after Thanksgiving and Christmas. 🙂

  23. I am so happy for all of you, what a wonderful milestone! Lol I bet you have a ton of people marking May 30 on their calendars now! Congratulations!

  24. Yayyyyyyy! Yayyyyy! I’ve been waiting with bated breath for this post. 🙂 I am sooooo happy for you and sooooo excited to see the newest Zoot-ie!

  25. Congratulations!

I have felt like you lately, thinking that everyone everywhere is pregnant.

I’m one of those people TTC. Haven’t had any luck for 6 months. Maybe this is the month.

  26. HI!

So happy for you! Honestly, pregnancy was a reason that I hestitated to blog a few years ago. I get pregnant so easily and have generally healthy pregnancies except for the fact that I feel like I’m hungover for nine months. No one wants to hear about that, and honestly thats all I think about for 40 weeks. So, I am happy with three and I hope (know) that you will be too.

Did you check out my site? I want to know how to make my own clever page, like yours.

  27. ALRIGHT! Sweet. I am so happy, Zoot! Random Internet Person absolutely ecstatic for you and yours. *smooch* This is so great,

  28. I am so happy for all the Zoots!

There is nothing quite so wonderful as hearing your baby’s heartbeat for the first time. Even if it’s your third or fourth or however many time!!

    Congratulations!

  29. Congrats! I couldn’t be happier..even if I did know you in “real life.” 🙂

May 30th sounds great. I’m running to mark my calendar.

  30. Note to self – read the title before the item and you won’t have to hold your breath!!

So happy for you all. LilZ needs a brother too 🙂

  31. Oh, Zoot, I am SO HAPPY for you!

And May 30th is indeed a good due date — that’s my husband’s birthday. A good day for a boy to be born, for sure!
