Thing 2

I’m too old for this level of activity

We decided to introduce NikkiZ to a real pool today at my friend Stace’s apartment complex. NikkiZ has been in our pool and in the indoor YMCA pool, but she’s never been in a big pool outside. When we go to the Y, she doesn’t like to be in the floating ring, she just likes to be in my arms. But – to be safe – I brought the ring to the pool anyway.

Well – she tricked me and decided she wanted to swim on her own like she does in our pool. But she doesnt understand that our pool is only about 2 inches deep. So, I ran to Target to buy one of those floating swimsuit dealios. The ones with the inflatable inserts at the belly and the back. Of course, they didn’t have any girly ones in her size, so I had to get a neon green suit. WITH SHARKS ON IT. I personally think it is totally awesome.

She had a great time in that thing. It doesn’t do enough to just let her swim unguarded, of course. But it gives her enough support that she doesnt feel like she’s bound to me and she’s able to just hold onto my fingers. She had a ball and is now sleeping it all off. Of course, I’m worn out too but there’s nine-million things I need to do during nap time, so I can’t take a nap. But man, I’d love to. That shit wore me out too!

My friend stace took some pictures of NikkiZ in her shark suit – I hope to get them from her today to show you. Who needs pink flowers when you have JAWS? Am I right?

  1. How fun!! Get her some arm floaties. Those are great for little ones wanting to “do it themselves”. LOL

  2. i don’t think i can handle the pictures, because the ones of her in the inflatable pool are so adorable that i may already be blind.

  3. I had never heard of the type of bathing suits you described. How is it inflated? What if the child rolls over on her face? I guess I’ll have to wait for the pics. Sounds amazing.

Can you tell it’s been a LONG time since I’ve had little ones in the house? LOL

But, I DO have grandkids in another State and I’m really interested.

  4. Hi Miss Zoot! Been reading your blog for a while now but this is my first coment! I love your blog, btw!
I agree with momto1 – the arm bands (thats what we call em in England!) are a great way to keep em afloat and teach kids to swim.
