Update from SXSW

I got to hang with a few yesterday and they were loads of fun. Danny and his hot wife are as cool in person as they seem online. Y’all – you know how you read his entries and you laugh your ass off because he’s so damn funny? Well – he’s 10 times funnier in person because his delivery is brilliant. He has this great deadpan which kept me laughing which is not a good thing to do when you’re eating BBQ. I met Asha who is so web-savvy, in terms of business and technology, that I felt as though I could become smarter just by eating with her. I wish I could corner her and pick her brain more but since we just met, I thought I should wait before I totally freak her out. I met Marrit Ingman again, but this time I got to speak with her a little more. She is so poised and eloquent I felt like a fool trying to converse with her. She is one of those writers I meet and wonder why she only writes, because she deserves a bigger platform because even as she talks about the mundane, you feel compelled to listen to her. And of course, there was Tracey, who I’ve also met before and enjoyed having a beer with her again. I am so glad she’s here.

And of course, I got to see Amy. I love her so. She kept me company last night waiting for my damn hotel shuttle to come and it amazes me how we’ve become such good friends online and in person I just feel so comfortable with her. We were laughing about the “beginning” – the months/weeks before we found out we were pregnant and how hysterical we both were and how far we’ve come.

This is why I love blogging.

(The panel I’m attending is about to start. I can’t even remember which one I’m in. This is going to be fun.)

  1. Sounds like you are having a great time. Oh, and I want a Mac too. I almost got one for Valentine’s Day, but then my husband’s SUV needed a couple thousand dollars worth of maintenance to it, so that went by the wayside. I am hoping for Christmas. I am so ready to kiss Windows goodbye!

  2. Not to gloat or anything, but I got a MacBook Pro last April for my birthday and it has been my new best friend. If my house caught on fire, what would I grab?
    Yep.

  3. You won’t freak me out! I was thinking the same thing about you and would love to talk more. Is it odd that we’re in the same city, mere blocks away, and I’m commenting on your blog? What are you doing for dinner tonite? Seriously?

  4. Y’all have no idea what a sweetheart Zoot is. One of the nicest people I have ever met. Honestly. Too bad her husband’s favorite hockey team is going to be dead meat when my Ducks get ahold of them.

  5. I was thrilled to learn that you’re speaking at SXSW, dollin Zoot. I look forward to downloading the podcast. Watch out for those free magaritas at the parties. Aw, forget it – drink all those free margaritas and running be damned!

All the best to you, Mommyblogger Supreme. Yours was one of the first blogs I ever read and I will always be your devoted fan.

  6. Also rockin’ the Dell laptop over here. I think of it as (1) supporting local business (say what you will about Dell, but they’re building us a new children’s hospital) and (2) keeping my lap toasty warm. Whew, is it hot in here? It was lovely to hang out with you again.
