Don’t Mess With Texas

Do any of you live in or around Austin, TX? I’m going to be there for the SxSWi conference March 8th – March 16th and would love it if I had someone to eat a meal or two with while I was there.

(Let’s not discuss the fact that I’ll be away from my family for that long. I already feel sick just thinking about it.)

Or even better – if you’re going to the conference itself I’d love to hunt you down so I can follow you around like a lost puppy. I’m needy like that.

I’m looking forward to the conference itself – especially getting to catch up with some of my favorite “Diaper Diarists” out there – but I’m also really nervous because it’s WAAAAY bigger than BlogHer and also? SIX DAYS. I’m going to be away from my gorgeous children and my hott and sexay husband for six days.

So – PUHLEASE – even if we’ve never spoken before, I’d love to hear from you. Either leave a comment and I’ll reply to you via email, or email me directly to misszootATgmailDOTcom. I need someone to help keep me distracted from the fact that I’ll be missing my family so much.

SIX. DAYS.

  1. Hey Zoot!

I’m in Dallas but I have met a great group of bloggers who live in the Austin area. Most of these attended our Blog Blowout in Austin in February 2006 and a few drove to Dallas for Blog Blowout II in Dallas in November 2006 and even more are returning to Blog Blowout III in Houston in April.

There are many many bloggers in Austin. A large group of my blogroll lives there. Mia Cara, The Everyday Lums, A Taste That’s Bitter, Oh, What the Hell, Casa McAustin, Missy’s World, Ball-n-Chain, Cranky Momma, Lucky and Trouble in Texas, My Polluted Stream of Consciousness, MLYF Mom You’d Like to Fork, Queen of Napville, The Beauchamp Family.

Many many more in Dallas & Houston if you fly into those areas.

  2. Let’s just not even talk about how jealous I am that you get to go. I never get to do anything fun. If I were going, you know I would definitely be the one following YOU around like a lost puppy. 😉

  3. Does it count if I WISHED I lived there?

P.S. Do you happen to have a really large duffel bag or steamer trunk or something that I could “accidentally” fall into as you passed by our neighborhood on the way to the airport?

  4. I’m near Austin!! About 1 1/2 hours away, which passes for near around these here parts. 🙂 I don’t know if I’ve ever commented before, but I’ve been lurking for a while. And as luck would have it I’ll actually be in the Austin area for part of that week…I would love to meet you!

  5. Are you going to BlogHer this July, too? It would be so much fun to meet you after all these years of reading your site. 🙂

  6. I live in Austin! I am a lurker here, but I love your blog. I even use one of your templates on my blog. Anyway, I would love to meet you while you are here!

  7. I’m in Austin, too! And I work downtown, so I could easily meet up with you for lunch or a drink or whatever. (but omg, the thought kinda makes me nervous already! because you’re like popular and stuff!)

  8. Oooh! I’ll be in Austin for a couple of hours at some point that week (traveling through). I’m actually headed to a town that’s an hour and a half away.

  9. I’m in Austin! Remember me? I just won you something on Blingo like 8 hours ago that I’m sure wasn’t enough for you! 🙂 And I’ve talked to you before in comments about BFing etc. (My daughter is just a couple months older than NikkiZ)

so yeah, plenty of good places to eat. Austin is a good place to get stuck in for 6 days, and I can’t believe some of my fave bloggers will be here. Maybe I’ll even meet you for a meal somewhere, probably with my daughter in tow! 🙂

  10. I’ve lived in Austin my whole life and I’d love to show you around a bit. It’s getting to be a really big city and you can really get lost and miss the fun stuff. I’m a bit pregnant but it shouldn’t be an issue. Shoot me an e-mail, I think we have a lot in common.

  11. If you are ever in New Mexico for any reason, I would eat food and drink with you…lol! I’m originally from TX but not any where near Austin. Have a great time and take lots of pics to share. There are lots of cool places to visit there. Oh and lots of great Mexican food places for you to try out. Have fun!

  12. I am a lurker here, I live in Houston but have a lake house on Travis. We will be going for spring break. March 9 -18. You have to go to 6th street!!!! Always love to eat and shop. I know where the Taget’s are. And you have to see the bats!!!!!

  13. I totally lurk here but would love to see you while you’re in Austin and show you the fine sites. There are so many great things to do. And running on Town Lake is a must. Really pretty and lots o’ eye candy.

  14. I don’t live in Austin now, but regularly visit my adopted hometwon. When you are there, do NOT miss: Z Tejas (everything on the menu) but especially the Ancho Chile Fudge Pie, Trudy’s Mexican Martini, Guero’s, Mother’s French Toast, Amy’s Ice Cream and Milkshakes, Texadelphia Cheesteaks, and a cocktail or three at the Stephen F downtown, and you can run it all off around Town Lake or Zilker Park. Enjoy! Austin is one of the coolest cities ever.

  15. Durlurking to recommend strongly that you go to Chuy’s. It’s an awesome twist on Tex-Mex! I lived in Austin for two years and I really miss it (there’s one close to the legendary Zilker Park/Barton Springs). Also highly recommend the Huckleberry Margaritas at the Roaring Fork (downtown). If you’re catching evening stuff, Ester’s Follies is fabulous – a SNL-like variety show right on 6th street with real Tx flavor. Sorry I can’t show you around myself but those are some favs.

  16. Hey Zoot! Question… Why are you (and the other illustrious ones) going? I ask because I work in the music division of a major film studio and one of our supervisors like to go to get a feel for the bands for future films… So I obviously don’t know what it’s about. Trying to equate it with blogging and I’m failing.
