Thing 2

Guest Home

MrZ’s parents ordered some new furniture that arrived in some pretty high-quality boxes. MrZ’s Mom could see the potential those boxes had immediately and turned them into a Cardboard Tunnel House that may just be the coolest thing ever. LilZ and I spent more time in it tonight than NikkiZ did. If you look at the picture closely, you’ll see the amazing details. The hearts on the doors and windows. The landscaping done with crayons. The Bar-B-Que in the “back” of the house. She thought of everything and even asked for a measurement so she could make sure the door was tall enough. I’m going to sob the day this has to be dumped in the trash. It is beyond awesome and I’m totally going to build one in my house the next time we have crazy furniture delivered.

  1. That’s one lucky little girl! (Not to mention you and LilZ.) I loved building box-houses when I was little. It didn’t happen often enough, in my opinion. 🙂

  2. That is so sweet. 🙂 It looks like she loves it. My friends and I just LOVED to construct cardboard mansions back in the day. We’d spend all day making the damn thing so we could sleep in it that night in a sleepover out in the backyard. Only to crawl back inside and fall asleep in the living room in the middle of the night. Good times, good times.

  3. Love it! You know how they make playhouses and stuff out of plastic now? When I was a kid, I had a playhouse and store made out of cardboard. It wasn’t a box, it was printed cardboard that had windows and awnings, and a mailbox….it was awesome and I used to make my dad go in it with me. I sort of miss it.

  4. Too Cool!
Is that where she spent Sat. night? With Grammie and Grampa?
Now I wish we could afford new furniture so that we could make one of those! Oh…wait..hubby works at a furniture factory…I guess I COULD ask him to get a box for me LOL.

As for how much you spent on dinner? I wouldn’t worry, you DID just win 5000 on Blingo, right?!

  5. Have you heard of Box Rivets? They allow you to attach big boxes together and make stuff like castles and pirate ships and things. I’ve never seen one in person, but the pictures online (Google “McGroovy’s” and/or “Box Rivets”) look freaking amazing.

  6. The house is great…but I LOVE the rug! Would you find out where she got it? Not that I’ll be able to get it here (Canada), but maybe I’ll get lucky.

  7. My Mom used to do this when my sister and I were little. She had a friend who worked at Sears that she would get appliance boxes from. The thing I remember most is that she used those heavy duty Magic Marker and the houses always smelled like that. Here you go kids…go get high in your new cardboard house…..LOL!!
