LilZ and I went out to eat at our favorite restaurant last night (one of about fifty…we have a lot of favorite restaurants). It’s called Nikko’s and we go there once in awhile as a family, but we never sit in the Tatami (sp?) room, which is the room where you sit on floor level. LilZ loves sitting in that room, but there is always someone in the group who would rather have a real chair with back support (damn grown-ups).
We had a nice time, just the two of us, and ate sushi, eel, and tofu. I didn’t use one bit of silverware, even “drinking” my miso soup by holding the bowl in my hands like they suggest. I’m totally cool like that. I’m not a pro at chop-sticks, but I’m definitely good enough that I can finish a meal with them within a decent amount of time.
Glad you guys had fun! We will have to try that place sometime.
sounds like a blast. We like to go to this place in the city where you sit on rice mats and they close the doors made of rice paper and gheisa’s wait on us. It’s awesome!
If you’re ever in Sac let me know my treat!
Such a great idea to have date night with your kid.
(Plus: chopsticks terrify me, eel scares me more. I want to like it, but I think of the eyes and they’re so creepy and so I’ll stick to burgers.)
How fun! Right now my son is 2 1/2, and sushi is what we do when we have a babysitter. We give him lots of variety in his foods, but somehow raw fish makes me nervous (and a kid with a bowl full of soba in public isn’t really very relaxing, either). I can’t wait til he’s a little older and he can come with us.
Hehe, my husband asked me if I was up for trying Japanese food today. I told him YES…but he was only kidding. Sucks too, because today may have been the only time in my life I was brave enough to give it a go…as I have problems eating things if I can’t understand what they are. 🙂
Can I tag along next time? 🙂
Now you’re making me want to drag Cam to Shogun. Which is about as Japanese as Kansas can get. :p
I’m decent at chopsticks, but after a while my fingers get tired, and I’m all like “F— it.” *stab*
Love it! It’s so great that LilZ likes different foods… Japanese is one of my favorites.
