Thing 2

Like mother, like daughter.

Did you think I was exaggerating when I said that NikkiZ inherited my monstrous head? Because I wasn’t. We went for her 6-month checkup yesterday and her height and weight put her at 30% of her age. A little below average. She’s tiny.

But her HEAD? Where does her head circumference fall in? 95%. So, not only is her head bigger than the average 6-month-old head, but it’s also completely huge for her tiny body. AWESOME. Seriously. Even if she grows up and looks exactly like her Dad, she’ll always have her Momma’s giant ‘noggin.

  1. Our 6 month visit is this morning (scheduled before I realized my son would begin sleeping until 8 or 8:30 every day and now forcing me to wake a sleeping babe at 6:30am!). At 4 months we’d finally made the normal growth curve for head circumference — here’s hoping we have a visit as good as yours!

  2. Of COURSE, she has a big head. She NEEDS it for that big brain of hers that is going to find the cure for cancer or something else equally amazing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. My son the 13yr old had a big head. It was off the charts and they had to do an ultrasound on the soft spot before it grew up but they found nothing. Nothing but a whole lot of brains! Brains that lost their common sense function when he turned 13!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. She is such a sweetie. My daughter got my big head too. I insist it’s because we have so much brain power that we simply need the extra room!

  5. You know what? I get that question…ALOT!
Because of the huge age gap with Brendan and NOah.
Sometimes I say yes sometimes I say no sometimes I say “fuck you it’s none of your business”

She’s beautiful by the way. I want to steal her…er…I mean I want to send her great Canadian presents. hee

  6. Happy 6 month birthday to a truly gorgeous baby girl! And I don’t think she has a large head. But if she does….I agree with the others….all the better for the brains needed to do all the wonderful things in life that I’m sure she will.
She sure is one pretty baby. Enjoy every second!

  7. As I told shanntastic several weeks ago on her huge-headed, adorable baby’s 1/2 birthday, you really must watch the old Mike Myers’ movie So I Married An Axe Murderer for all of the most heeelarious jokes about kids with huge heads. SO. FUNNY. I guarantee your family will be quoting that movie constantly if you are anything like us.

  8. Woot! Six months! Yippee! Congratulations! You made it!

She’s certainly cute enough for all that excitement and all those exclamation points.

    Way to go!!!

  9. I swear to everything that is Holy. If my kid doesn’t come out as cute as THAT one? I’m sending her back. Seriously….Zoot she is so pretty. And her head is just perfect.

  10. I am right there with you. My daughter Alanna will be 6 months in May and at her 4 month check up the dr said she had a big head measuring in the 60% percentile. I asked if that means she would be really smart, you know a big head for the big brain. The dr looked at me and shook her head no. Oh well wishful thinking I guess. NikkiZ is super cute!

  11. I’m a regular lurker. I just had to say that your little girl is incredibly adorable. I also have to laugh at the huge head comments. My husband has a HUGE head. I had nightmares about giving birth to a huge head like his. Fertility issues may save me from it but it doesn’t stop the nightmares.

  12. What a doll, I love to see them when they look like jack-o-lanterns.

Steak bites? What is this? She’s eating meat already?

  13. I suspect Grommet has the opposite situation – a PIN head. I don’t know where her head circumference falls in the percentile for her age, but I went hat shopping for her yesterday and she’s just over three months, yet the hats labeled 3M had plenty of room for her to grow into over the summer. Puh-lenty.
