The End of an Era

Tonight was the last soccer game of the year. No more games, no more practices, no more nothin’. It’s weird because I have a funny feeling we won’t be playing soccer next year. I really would like LilZ to participate in something that encourages excercise, but I don’t know if he’ll have other extra-curicular activities in middle school that will conflict with soccer. That’s why I bribed him to train for the 5K with me.

(That and the fact that I need someone else to motivate my lazy ass.)

It will be weird if we don’t play soccer again – we’ve been doing it so long. It’s just another sign that LilZ is changing and growing up. Or, if you want to look at it a different way, it’s another sign that I’m getting old and one step closer to being a mother to a teenager: A job I am NOT looking forward to.

  1. Ow… that line “it will be weird if we don’t play soccer again, we’ve geen doing in for so long” has been playing trough my head for the last 2 months! I never came to writing it down on my blog, but that line exactly describes how i’ve been feeling for the last months. Long story short, i’ve been playing soccer since i was 9 years old, i’m 29 now. Due some unfortunate circumstances surrounding my team i haven’t been playing for the last 3 months, and i’ve finally decided to give it up and to find other sportive challenges in my life (like running a 10 k). But since i’ve decided, although i like the extra free time it gives me (no more matches on sunday, yeah!) i’ve been having feelings of regret too. I will be giving up on something that has been a large part of my life for the last 20 years and something that has defined me in a way. Yes, i’m that girl that plays soccer (a lot less common in the Netherlands as it is in America, as i understand)! 😀 Sorry for the long post, but if you’re ok with it i’m going to use your title to finally write my “goodbyes to soccer” post. And as that one is in Dutch, you won’t be able to read it even if you wanted to ;).
    Love your blog, btw!
