What do you consider appropriate family conversation?

LilZ loves himself some cheesey horror flicks. Lately, his obsession is with the Final Destination movies, since a new one has just been released (or is about to be, I can’t keep up). He has watched the first two several times and has seen the trailer for the third one so often there is really no need to see the movie anymore. He has decided that he is going to write the FOURTH installment himself (it stars several sets of triplets, if you’re wondering) and he has been trying to come up with really ridiculous ways to die so he can add them to his movie. He and MrZ were trading ideas last night while I was doing laundry:

“…he’s running a race around the track and gets impaled by a javelin”
“…she goes to blow-dry her hair and flames shoot out the dryer and fry her brain.”
“…they are filling up their drinks at the soda machine and it won’t stop and they drown in Mr. Pibb.”

And other such realistic scenarios.

I made some blueberry muffins for breakfast this morning (I know! I’m amazing! All this and looks too!) and I put some in LilZ’s lunchbox along with this note:

“Your challenge for today: Death by Blueberry Muffins. Love, Mom”

Update from 2020: Reading this brought me so much joy because Eliah is still OBSESSED with horror movies. He watches crazy foreign horror flicks. He orders special art prints dedicated to his favorite. He listens to podcasts…He even has an instagram account dedicated to the obsession. He just introduced Nyoka to the movies this year during the pandemic.

  1. That’s the cutest thing ever. This is the first time I’ve read your blog. How old is LilZ? I’m totally making muffins for my daughter and hubby tonight…but I don’t have blueberry mix at home, so it will be pumpkin. 🙂 Thanks for the idea.

  2. Hi Zoot! I have never commented but I enjoy reading your blog. I have read about your daughter’s teething in previous posts. My friend has twins and is going through the same thing you are. I’m sure you don’t care for advise or assvise, but I didn’t know if you knew about teething tablets, to help soothe the pain if she has any. I’m sure Target has them, you may have to ask the pharmacist. The tablets dissolve in their mouth and soothe the gums. That and a little Tylenol are great!

  3. Note in the lunchbox?! Super cute.

(Mr. Pibb is a kind of soda. I don’t know what it tastes like, though–I’ve never actually tried it.)

  4. I want notes in my lunch! I shall challenge Joey. Or I could write them myself, for myself. Or for my imaginary children. I don’t actually have imaginary children, but I don’t have real ones either.

    Dilemma.

  6. It was just the Caramilk eggs, the mystery filled creme eggs should be fine to eat ( in mass quantities, I am not so sure-afterall what are the REALLY?) Don’t judge us by a few bad eggs!
