Accidental Awesome

I had to go to Home Depot last Saturday. Something I HATE to do. Not going to Home Depot, I don’t mind that so much, it’s the going to Home Depot on a SATURDAY. It’s second it terrible ONLY to Wal-Mart on a Saturday. But I just needed to run in and grab something quick so I thought, Surely I can handle it.

We walked in and the lady at the door said, “Are you all here for the workshop?” Um…no? But then we saw what she was talking about. They had a huge workshop set up with projects for the kids and then they had SANTA there. SANTA!

Evidently they do the workshops the first Saturday of every month. But SANTA! was, of course, new. They gave the kids each their own apron (APRON!) and they built snowmen napkin holders. Probably a project more geared to older kids, but it wasn’t too hard to help them simultaneously. And then? After the projects? SANTA!

Not only that, but since I didn’t have my camera or phone with me (Who knew there would be a photo op in Home Depot?) the employee took pictures and texted them to me!

We will definitely do this again next month. It sounds like all Home Depots do things like this, so you should check out yours. They get a different pin for their apron with every workshop. There were kids there who had dozens of pins! I hope we build up the same collection.

Maybe this will take care of my fear of Home Depot on Saturdays. Or at least of my fear of people wearing orange aprons.

  1. How cool! Those snowmen are cute…are they painted or did the kids use decals or what? They did a great job! And very nice of the employee to send the pictures to you.

  2. I love that you stopped and let them do this. A lot of parents would have said they were too busy and kept on going with their errands.

    1. Well…Honestly? I was torn. If the kids hadn’t seen Santa I might have tried to sneak past because I was in a hurry. But I’m VERY glad I didn’t!

  3. That’s awesome. I wanted to take my daughter to that, too, but we flat ran out of time. :( Booo….

Anyhow, I wanted to share this link with you. I remember you writing about Nikki losing her ever loving marbles over her daddy touching the elf.. I was reminded of it this morning as I freaked for a moment before I remembered I did, indeed, remember to move mine!

    Thanks for sharing!

  4. I’m still struggling with the fact that you went out without a phone…I don’t even go to the bathroom without my phone!

  5. Lowes has them too! and at lowes you get badges that can be sewn onto your apron! my hubby takes my daughter to one or the other almost every saturday!! free and awesome!
