Today is essentialy Friday since I won’t be working anymore this week. We are heading to Slidell, LA to hang with MrZ’s family. I am totally looking forward to the trip as MrZ’s family gatherings are tons of fun. And also? THE FOOD. Oh my god. Those people know how to cook. I am really glad we’re running the 5-mile Turkey Day Race in New Orleans on Thanksgiving Day because that will make me feel less guilty about eating my weight in cajun-fried turkey and Poppy’s pumpkin pie.

I think that I’ve always preferred Thanksgiving over Christmas. Well, as an adult I have. As a kid that would have had me committed because: Presents! But as an adult, Thanksgiving is always just family gathered around eating. I mean, that’s totally awesome! Family! Food! And we come from a long line of Catholics so: WINE!

So, I’m curious. What are your Thanksgiving plans? Are you cooking or traveling? Or heaven forbid: both? What is your favorite food on Thanksgiving? And will you share it with me? And most importantly: What is the one thing NOT obvious that you are thankful for. (Obvious answers: family, housing, donuts.) I’m thankful for the teaser Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix trailer.

We don’t celebrate thanksgiving here but today, with all the rain, i would have been thankful to own a car to drive to work with. Maybe as a christmas present?

  2. mrscrumley Says:

We are hosting here in Chattanooga! My dad is already here, having come from a class in Montgomery, AL. My mom, sisters and BIL come tonight. We are so excited! We are frying a turkey… fun stuff that cooking.

  3. Susan Says:

We do celebrate & will make a day trip to my in-laws for Thanksgiving. I think my favorite food is sweet potato casserole (loads of butter & brown sugar, but no mini-marshmallows). I am thankful to be gainfully employed this year - I was laid off during this week of last year( the day I went back to work after honeymoon). Not a fun way to start a holiday. Have a great week!

  4. Jessie Says:

Did you say cajun fried turkey? Can I come? Because that sounds awesome!

Although I don’t know if that would work, since I’m cooking Thanksgiving dinner here, and am really looking forward to it. My favorite Thanksgiving food is Pecan Pie, but I’m not making it this year, and I’m making apple pie instead. Mmmm….pie.

  5. 31 Girl Says:

We will be travelling and cooking. SIL was going to do most of the cooking but now she is pregnant and SICK! So here I come to the rescue (me and my mad cooking skills - why are you laughing?) I am thankful that I was able to find my awesome fleece gloves this morning.

  6. Belle Says:

I’m going out of state to visit my family later today. Then I have to come back Thanksgiving day so that I can be at work at 5:45 a.m. on Friday.

Have fun on your trip, and good luck in the run.

  7. Tina Says:

We are going an hour north the day of to celebrate wtih my family. I am bringing pie & a new cranberry thing I thought I’d try. Favorite food? The cheesecake/pumpkin pie I’m bringing. And, I’m thankful I’m no longer sick and I WANT eat food again (there was a nasty stomach virus going around here last week!).

  8. stacey Says:

Having a big dinner on Wed night with a bunch of Friends. On Thursday, going to another friend’s house for an open house, then to the horse races. It is a big deal here, and you get all dressed up, kinda like the ascot races! I was also invited later in the evening to another friend’s house. I love all the food…it is soooo yummy. But really its about the sweet potatoes. I am thankful for the cooler weather!! And sweet potatoes.

  9. michelle Says:

Thanksgiving is one of my faovrite holidays too. Food and family and no present buying pressure, what’s not to love!

Very disappointed. Went to the link for the trailer and only got the trailer for the new Rocky movie! :( Now I am on a quest to find the HP trailer. Is it just me? Am I the only one finding the weird link?

  10. Christina Says:

Cajun fried turkey and pumpkin pie - yum!!! This year I have no big plans and no time to travel, just me and my husband eating dinner with our cat. I’ll be cooking, though. The menu will include my T’giving favorite, Yorkshire puddings, a holdout from my British parents.

Let’s see…I’m (not obviously) thankful for every night that I can still find a comfortable sleeping position AND sleep through the night (I’m six months pregnant). I know those days are numbered!!

  11. Floyd Says:

I will be hosting but only the fun members of my family this year! Somehow it worked out that all of the whiners or complainers or tension nuts in our family are going elsewhere. So it’s just me, my cousins and my Dad which means? Total cocktails.

Favorite side dish is stuffing. I make sausage/cornbread stuffing and I’ve been fighting the urge to make it early.

Most thankful for boot weather finally being here. I will now commence to wearing my beaten up Ariat boots until I’m forced to remove them next spring.

  12. Gigi Says:

I am thankful for my laptop and for wireless internet.
    Also Netflix.
    Also Chipotle and Trader Joe’s.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  13. Jessica Says:

we vowed we’d stop traveling once the baby came, but we’re traveling all over the state of MD on Thursday. First to the husb’s grandmother’s where I won’t eat because she ahtes turkey and instead of making turkey she makes an aray of German food, complete with knockworst, kielbasa and saurkraut. ICK! then we areoff to my mom’s where I will dine upon DELISHUS turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry from a can (YUM!!!!!) and an assortment of pies. then on Friday I will be making a feast of our own for the husb and I to enjoy. I swear, as Bob is my witness (something I used to say as a kid) that I will be hosting next year!

And, while I know you said nto to state the obvious…I’m gonna. I’m incredibly thankful that I had a easy birth and now have a very happy, very healthy little girl to love, also very thankful that this kid, at not yet 4 mos sleeps in 8 hour streches at night. I’m also very thankful for Cookies and Cream flavored Pop tarts. (they aren’t donuts) Oh, and thankful that TV this season is pretty darm good - Heros, anyone? :)

Happy day before the day before turkey day!

  14. Michelle Says:

I am travelling 1 mile to my mom’s house and I am in charge of a cheese spread for one of the appetizers, a carrott cake for dessert and a green bean casserrole. I adore Thanksgiving. Have a great one!

  15. Pamalamadingdong Says:

i’m thankful that thanksgiving was LAST month and also that it’s ALWAYS on a Sunday here.
And also for chocolate covered graham crackers

  16. Karen Says:

I am cooking… There will be a total of 16 people here (6 of us and 10 guests… only one of which is related to us). Thankfully, the guests are bringing food too, but I am still making stuffed mushroom appetizers, homemade rolls, 2 coconut pies, a turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, and mashed potatoes (actually, my 14yo is making the potatoes; she considers homemade mashed potatoes to be her specialty). Of those foods, the turkey (glazed with melted butter, currant jelly, and a smidgen of bourbon) and pie are my favorites.

I’m thankful for email and free long distance cell phone plans.

  17. Leah Says:

Thanksgiving is my favorite. I love it most when I can cook (the rule: whoever is cooking gets to bust out the wine as soon as they start), but it rules all the time.

  18. Kerry Says:

I bought a few turkey filets to cook up, and some weird British cranberry sauce, but I just don’t think Thanksgiving in England will be quite the same. Though I am thankful that I have my first in person job interview since I moved here on Thursday morning!

  19. Cheryl Says:

My sister and I are driving 3 hours to our parents’ house. My favorite food around the holidays is crab stuffing. Yum! Oh, and I’m thankful for football, because that will keep conversation to a minimum at my house and that will keep me sane.

  20. Ginger Says:

I am always in charge of the stuffing and pumpkin bars. We eat at noon every year and our family always take turns as to whose house we will all congregate at. Thank God it is not at my house this year! I was the hostess 2 years ago! In the evening we go to the movies (no Harry Potter movie this year). On Black Friday instead of the shopping, I take my son to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for the day and we pretty much have the place to ourselves!

  21. Ang Says:

We’ve already celebrated one Thanksgiving on Sunday and will have another dinner Thursday. No travelling involved, but I will be cooking. Crock pot corn, Apple-Snicker Salad, and hot rolls.
My fave Thanksgiving food — my mom’s Broccoli Casserole (rice, broccoli, Velveeta, cream of chicken soup).
Something not obvious that I am thankful for: the gym. (I SO need the gym after holidays that revolve around eating way too much food.)

  22. Randi Says:

First of all good luck on the race and enjoy your Thanksgiving plans!

Let’s see, my favorite thanksgiving food would probably have to be…LEFTOVERS! I love leftover turkey.

Something that’s not an obvious (like my grandmother, who just had her bladder removed due to cancer, still being alive) thing to be thankful for?! I’m thankful that we got a new guy at work who likes to be a smartass. My smartass skills were seriously lacking due to being at home with a 2 year old, so now I’m getting my old self back. Hooray!

  23. Amber Says:

This year will be the first year that I haven’t spent Thanksgiving with my own family. I’ll be going with my boyfriend’s family out of state to their Thanksgiving celebration (and yes, I am insanely nervous about all the new family members I’ll get to meet). I’ll be home for Christmas though!

You know what other first this will be, though? Because I’m not going to be with my own family, this will be the first time I get to sit at the “adults” table for Thanksgiving! (I’m 21) Now THAT’s something to be thankful for. ;)

  24. dailybreak Says:

I am thankful for TIVO, jogging strollers and things that make you hmmm.

  25. dailybreak Says:

I am thankful for TIVO, jogging strollers and things that make you go hmmm.

  26. amber Says:

We’re going over to my grandmothers, and now that I live in Atlanta, it’s only a 10 minute drive versus 5 1/2 hours.

I think I’m supposed to be bringing something, but I can’t remember. I probably should call her and find out.

  27. teachbroeck Says:

Due to out-of -towners we clebrated my tradtional T-day last Sunday. This means for the first tiem ever I get to celebrate with my hubby ( who hunts and cannot leave the 5 mile radius of his beloved woods) at his gma’s. I am thankful for the earlobes my baby is creating in my belly.
    Happy EATDAY Zoot!

  28. Heather Says:

First ever Thanksgiving brunch with my folks, and then dinner at the in-laws. Two oddly timed and gigantic meals in one day!

  29. Janet Says:

I’m traveling, I love chestnut stuffing & plum pudding and I’m thankful for the HP trailer, too! But damn…Snape looked so old!!!

  30. gabby Says:

Mmm, STUFFING is my favorite part of Thanksgiving. Followed closely by pecan pie.

My family and I have been going to this dressy, private club restaurant with my aunt and her rich family for the past ten years. This year, thankfully, we are NOT going there. When that fancy situation was first forced upon me and my brother we couldn’t grasp the concept of not wearing jeans at Thanksgiving. We’ll be making two stops (that’s two meals! how do people do that?!) and this year I’ll have my new hubby in tow, which is awesome. We can make out in a spare bedroom when we get bored.

I’m thankful for finding my true love this year.
Also for our fabulous new kitchen appliances. I shine them.

  31. stacey Says:

I am thankfull too for our Turkey day 5k. I am also thankfull for the evening Chiefs game and the tailgating that I will be partaking in!!!

  32. Erinn Says:

I am thankful for Tivo and my softest, coziest bathrobe in the world.

  33. callistawolf Says:

Definitely TIVO, my laptop, my dsl connection… I couldn’t get through a day without any of them.

We’re staying in, just the four (four! last year it was THREE) of us. We have a turkey and all that fun stuff. I’m kinda glad we’ll be alone, actually since Christmas is going to be a production. On the other hand, I sorta hate you a little bit for saying you like Thanksgiving more than Christmas. I let the whole “Halloween more than Christmas” thing slide, but I don’t think I can forget this slight. ;)

  34. Nicole P. Says:

My mom is coming here today and I am cooking the dinner on Thursday. Even though it is just the two of us, I’m still cooking the full spread because I am a crazy lunatic.

My favorites are my grandma’s cranberry marshmallow salad and pumpkin pie.

And I’m thankful for my laptop and ipod. I cry when either of them die/are broken.

  35. callistawolf Says:

dude, you just totally switched to wordpress! Sweet!

  36. Heather Says:

I saw the OotP trailer the other night when we went to see Happy Feet. It was sweet.
I’m thankful for so many things…but I already had thanksgiving, and posted on it, too, ,so I won’t take up space here. ;-)

  37. Charlotte Says:

For Thanksgiving, we are going to WALT DISNEY WORLD. Whoo hooo! We will be eating our Thanksgiving dinner at Chef Mickey’s. My favorite TD food is pie - pumpkin or sweet potato. One not-so-obvious thing that I’m thankful for is red cups and holiday flavors at Starbucks. For some reason, they just make it SEEM like the holidays.

  38. Caroline Says:

I will be working for most of the day. Miss Fancy Pants here had to open her big mouth and get herself booked as a presenter at the International Auto Show. So I won’t be able to eat my yummy dinner until around 7, earliest.

My favorite T-day dish would have to be a tie between stuffing - overloaded with gravy, of course - and my broccoli cheese casserole.

What am I thankful for? At the risk of sounding rather hokey, one thing I am thankful for is that in a world with little sense of community left in it, we have all forged our own community on this fancy interwb thingy.

  39. Sonja Says:

I’m cooking for 26 people - and it’s my first turkey ever. So I’ll probably be most thankful when everybody is fed and I can relax…

  40. Tiffani Says:

Cooking deviled eggs, pasta salad (from a box) & mac and cheese (rotini noodles, melted Velveeta), carrot cake & brownies (also from boxes) to take to my parents’ house in Town Creek. My bro and pregnant sis-in-law will be joining us.

I’m thankful for music, my iPod, books, notebooks & pens and proving that people you meet thru the Internet aren’t all stalkers! ;-) Oh, and hot chocolate and kettle corn popcorn.

  41. Regina Clare Jane Says:

We are going out with another couple to a lunch buffet at the big resort hotel here- and stuff our faces silly! My fav food? Pumpkin pie! And what am I thankful for? I am thankful I found a book on XHTML and CSS that I can actually understand!
Have a great T-G, Miss Zoot!

  42. Allie Says:

Hello from the Kind Blog Roll. I decided to start at the bottom of the list so you were my second click.

Our thanksgiving plans include my first holiday as someone’s wife which will be spent at his mothers house eating turkey with strangers. Yay turkey! Then we’ll be playing board games at my house.

I have been listing 4 things I’m thankful for each day over at my site and some of them are pretty random. Feel free to hop on over and check them out.

  43. Mieke Says:

We are staying home (just the 3 of us) and I am sorta cooking! Ham and turkey are coming from honeybaked hams (yuuuuummmmy), and I am cooking all the sides. I even got a great cheesecake from cheesecake factory , this is by far my favorite food. I am thankful we get to have some peace and quiet on our day off and just hang out together. Happy Thanksgiving Miss Zoot and family!! Oh, I used to spend my summers in Slidell, my grandparents lived there for 40 years. :)

  44. Jem Says:

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving over here, but I am thankful that even though I hate my weight, I am not so fat that I cannot walk.

  45. Veronica Says:

I love mashed potatos. Mmmm. With gravy.
I’m thankful that I get to eat mashed potatos and gravy frequently.

  46. brit Says:

how am I supposed to wait till 2007?
